They Knew

They Knew
by Ronnie Barbett

During my time writing for Street Pulse and all the meetings that I attended on Martin Luther King Drive about the homeless issues, it’s no surprise to the people reading this. The homeless are about to overflow the square and beyond. It’s happening now, as predicted. I don’t like the police attitude. The homeless know that all the police are doing is dumb, just counting and looking how many people and where…claiming their turf…letting you know what’s off-limits. At all these meetings I attended, I pointed out the value of certain programs running (no need to mention) that should not be ended. I noticed no police authority at these meetings. The police department has a responsibility to come and confront these issues but their seats at these meetings are empty. It’s not fair. It’s not what they do, it’s how they do what they do.
It is time that this city and it’s departments do the right thing – see and treat the homeless for what they are – homeless.
