State Journal: Day shelter ‘a godsend’ amid chilly weather

Sandy Cullen from the Wisconsin State Journal reports on the first day of the new Madison Daytime Warming Shelter. She writes: “[G]uests had attended a spirituality group and a town hall meeting, enjoyed pizza bought by a volunteer, downed some 120 cups of coffee, listened to a guitar performance and watched ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.'” The Day Shelter will be opened 7 days a week from 8 AM to 4:30 PM and will offer lockers and temporary storage, food & beverages, clothing, quiet space, a rec room, a resource center with computers and internet access, as well as a play area for children & families.
